Content or Discontent?

February 16, 2017

Often times we find ourselves dissatisfied with where we are in life and we are always wishing that our circumstance was different. Some people are consistently looking for another job, another church, another home, another car, and the list goes on and on.

Now we know that life brings changes and there's nothing wrong when we have the right motivation and desire to better ourselves, our circumstances, or situation. I challenge you though to first be thankful for what God has blessed you with.

The apostle Paul said in Philippians 4:11 "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content." How content are you? Do you always look to the hypothetical possibilities of tomorrow so much that you cannot enjoy the blessings of today? Again, nothing wrong with desiring to better circumstances but sometimes God has us where we are to learn lessons and to learn to depend on Him! Let God guide you in your decisions!

Psalm 37:4 says "Delight thyself also in the Lord: and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart." Often we read this and say if we delight in the Lord He is going to give us everything that we desire! Well, He certainly does give us our heartfelt desires often and much more than we deserve. The Lord supplies all of our needs, and even gives us some of our wants! However, I also believe this verse is also saying that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, He will "place within us" the right desires.

So the summary? Delight yourself in the Lord. Let Him guide your path, and place within you the right desires!

Are you in a situation in your life that you wish to change? No problem, but make sure that desire is in God's will and plan, and not our own selfish or human desire.
